You explore Haight-Ashbury with a self-guided phone game from Questo, solving clues that lead through ten stages toward Golden Gate Park. It runs offline, takes about one to two hours, and lets you stop for shops, food, or a drink. No physical guide joins you.
“The best tour you can go on in San Francisco. Very fun and entertaining! Book it and you’ll thank me later:)”
You and your private group play lead botanists in a self-guided Balboa Park mystery. Follow clues from the Carousel through Spanish Village, gardens, museums, the Old Globe, and Cabrillo Bridge. Solve 12 puzzles at your own pace, with no guide or attraction tickets required.
“I think the idea of this is great but I would have liked it to be more like an amazing race. The game had a story line that made no sense and took aways from the challenges.”
Use your smartphone to solve a self-guided mystery across Millennium Park and Grant Park. You will visit Cloud Gate, Crown Fountain, Buckingham Fountain, the Art Institute, and other Chicago landmarks while learning their stories. Plan on a brisk 1-hour-35-minute walk with no physical guide.
“At first the quest started out good until we ran into construction areas where things were being blocked. We had to use a clue/hint reveal answer which started taking the fun out of the game. We decided to continue anyways and had a problem getting into range of the water fountain. Had to use an expand radius. There were 4 of us in the group and like to get everything correct without using "points", this made the game more difficult when one person couldn't get game reconnected since she was not able to go back to last location and not be able to reach the fountain again to restart game…”
Use the Questo app to solve clues across New Orleans City Park, starting at the New Orleans Museum of Art and ending at the Singing Oak. Plan for about 70 minutes, bring water and sunscreen, and note that museum and botanical garden admission cost extra.
“This was our first outdoor quest experience and it was definitely entertaining. We did it late at night our second day in New Orleans which made it very interesting. Most clues were self explanatory. Overall, great time.”
Follow a mafia-themed story through Boston’s North End using the Questo app. Solve clues at 11 stops, from the Rose Kennedy Rose Garden to Hanover Street, while finding odd corners, historic sites, and famous crime locations at your own pace. No guide or attraction tickets are needed.
“If it is cold and dark and you do not know the area it is difficult because we did not know the area”
Use the Questo app to guide your private group through Lincoln Park on a self-led, ghost-themed Chicago scavenger hunt. Solve clues at seven landmarks, including the Lincoln and Grant monuments, South Pond, the zoo, and Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool. Allow about two hours and bring a charged phone.
“This was worth the little money it cost. The download and getting ready was a bit of a hassle still worth it. We really enjoyed all of it up until the last clue that was not accessible anymore. However the help menu and chat from the app let us know what happened at the end. Would probably liked a big finish. Still lots of interesting facts and places we would have missed on our trip. I did report the issue so hopefully others won’t get to the last chapter and not be able to complete it as well.”
You’ll use your own smartphone to explore Detroit from 199 W Jefferson Ave, finding objects, completing photo missions, and earning points. A remote host chats through the app for two hours. Choose your route and pace, but do not expect a history tour or city-specific facts.
“We had so much fun. I love that everything was in a good walking distance! This was a great idea and would actually do again.”
This self-guided Questo game leads you from the White Horse Tavern to The Bitter End, with eight Greenwich Village stops tied to Jimi Hendrix, Edgar Allan Poe, folk singers, comedians, and legendary clubs. Play in English, pause anytime, and continue without internet access.
“I loved exploring at my own pace and learning about all these stories that I would've otherwise missed. A bargain for this price!”
Follow Questo from 175 Broadway to 162 N 9th Street through seven clue-led stops in Williamsburg. Solve puzzles, find street art, and learn about each place at your own speed. The private, self-guided game lasts about 70 minutes, works offline, and costs $5.99 per person.
“Great idea but directions were not great and some of the art was covered over with scaffold or advertising but it was a good way to find our way around”

“My work team enjoyed the scavenger hunt! This was a team building event and it was awesome! We had a group of 4 and learned all kinds of new things about Charlotte.”
Use the Questo app to guide yourself through 11 Philadelphia stops tied to the Founding Fathers, Benjamin Franklin, religious history, and the Constitution. Plan on 45 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes, with no guide or attraction tickets required. English, private, and playable at any time.
“It was a pretty neat idea, executed a little poorly. On the positive side, it was fun hanging out in Philadelphia in the middle of the night seeing some sites and learning some things I didn't know. The game / pizzle format is a great idea, and a couple of the puzzles were fun to solve. On the negative side, the walking directions were a bit hard to follow and had us walking in circles but it would have been more fun if we had a place to get to. The instructions felt like they had been written by AI and maybe not play tested or edited for clarity. Most…”
Use the Questo app to follow a self-guided puzzle walk through downtown Atlanta. Solve clues at World of Coca-Cola, the Fountain of Rings, local eateries, arcades, and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. No guide or attraction admission is required.

“It didn’t worth the money. There were some lighting but nothing very specific or memorable. I really expected better experience.”
Start at Market Square and use your smartphone to find photo targets and complete playful challenges in any order. A remote guide follows your team by chat for two hours, while the app tracks points and national rankings. It is a private, English-language activity for your group.
“I was blown away when the policeman had us pose with his classic car and the lady did the hokie pokie with us. Though the scavenger hunt was generic it helps to get you familiar with the city, or neighborhood you are visiting. I was surprised at how many people wanted to help us out. Had a great time doing as much as I wanted.”
Pick a country, a city or a kind of puzzle.
